The Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is so beneficial that it can very easily counteract the contamination of material nature, which results from one's possessing a material body. Bhagavad-gītā therefore teaches, in the very beginning, that whether one is a man or a woman, one must know that he or she is not the body but a spiritual soul. Everyone should be interested in the activities of the spirit soul, not the body. As long as one is activated by the bodily conception of life, there is always the danger of being misled, whether one is a man or a woman. The soul is sometimes described as puruṣa because whether one is dressed as a man or a woman, one is inclined to enjoy this material world. One who has this spirit of enjoyment is described as puruṣa. Whether one is a man or a woman, he is not interested in serving others; everyone is interested in satisfying his or her own senses. Kṛṣṇa consciousness, however, provides first-class training for a man or a woman. A man should be trained to be a first-class devotee of Lord Kṛṣṇa, and a woman should be trained to be a very chaste follower of her husband. That will make the lives of both of them happy.

What makes you think that taking care of your family is not noteworthy. If everyone took care of their own backyard we wouldn't have atrocities in the world.

Isn't it because someone somewhere at sometime didn't like what was in someone else's backyard, judged it and prosecuted them for it that created atrocities in the first place.

I've been working on my own backyard for a while now, as a result I am more tolerant, accepting and generous than I was before. This is the best way I could have helped.

I live my life as it comes and don't press my beliefs upon anyone. I keep an open mind and try to see the truth in all things. Does this help those who suffer no. But I do not cause suffering in others and am satisfied with that.

What can we do ? It`simple : being Christians , and not only by name.Read the Gospels and try to live exactly how them say. In fact , it`s not so simple . Living that way , we do everything , but it`s hard in our society , espacially if we are afraid of the public opinion , failure or loss.Living that way involves a lot of courage , even if it`s not easy to see.
What do I do ? I try to live this way , no matter what . Sometimes I`m wrong , but I realise , and come back to the way .

I have adopted thirty homeless cats, two horses and one ox.
I recycle.
I buy organic to free myself of pesticide and hormone laden foods that poison our planet.
I am a vegan, and by eating vegan I save the lives of ninety animals per year.
I donate unwanted goods to my local www.freecycle.org and if no one wnts them I drop them off at my church thrift shop, where if they are not sold they get shipped overseas to those in need.
I changed all of my light bulbs to compact fluorescents and while saving twenty bucks off of my first electric bill after the change I decrease our dependence on foreign oil.
I tell my parents, sister and kids that I love them.

As a minor, I'm not sure I can do anything else but pray, walk with God and keep in fellowship with Him, love Him and my neighbors, and have faith that He can bring us through all things. But most of all, to pray and have faith. I quote: Matthew 17:20 "And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you."

A mustard seed is very, very small.

Jesus is not saying directly, "If you believe it can be so, I will remove this mountain." What he means is: if you have faith, anything can be accomplished through God's power.

Rom 8:38-39 "For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

For inspiration and encouragement, you can visit the source link I put in here. It's Hebrews 11, which documents the great men of the Bible when they had faith in God.

I got sober 28 and a half years ago and I try to help others do the same.
Sometimes a simple act of kindness is huge to the person to whom you give it and most acts of kindness don't cost anything.

I have lived with a tribal group in Thailand and cared for their physical and medical needs, made friends with them, eaten with them, and worshipped God with them

I have taught English as a Second Language. And through that I have helped comfort those of another country when their loved ones were dying, wiped out from at least one heart feelings left over from WWII, cried with those who cried at death, rejoiced with those who married, and tried to help those I could to come to terms with the problems of their lives.

I work with Somali refugees and Hispanic immigrants and teach the children English, and try to help them with their troubles, which they speak about at times freely.

I pray for them. And if there is nothing else you can do at this time because of other responsibilities, you can pray, too. It is not an excercise in futility to pray to the God who created and saves sinners.

But I also have discouraged others from doing atrocities...
