Is it okay to lie to keep from hurting someone's feelings?

People lie to keep from getting themselves in trouble. Of course when the lie is found out, they're in worse trouble. And they lie to make themselves look better than they are. And they lie because they don't want to face the music if they tell the truth. They don't want their mate to leave them...or yell at them...or be mad at them. It's never okay to lie. To keep from hurting someone's feelings? It's still not okay to lie but often you can avoid hurting them by sandwiching the hurtful part between two good things. Example: AM I FAT? Oh, you look so nice in your new outfit! Fat? Well, I know you want to lose a few pounds...how about we exercise together a few times a week. I need to watch my weight too. But you are so pretty. I love your hair and you have the prettiest green eyes...I'm jealous of them.

The mother of my younger step daughter lies because she cannot help it. I would call it almost pathological. It is pretty sad. You never know when to believe her or not.... usually safer to "not"... lol
I feel the majority of people ask a question actually wanting an honest answer. I think their feelings would be hurt more if you lied and someone else told them the truth and she then knew you had lied. I hope that made some sense... lol Good Luck!!

if everyone was truthful, there would be a lot of hurt ppl in the world. a white lie never hurts but make sure you remember your lies!!! LOL

No, it is not. What if the person you lied to finds out later? Don't you think it would hurt more knowing you lied?

some folks lie to protect others or themselves, it is only human

It depends. Typically, it is not ok to lie.
Sometimes, there are cirumstances, but you weren't very specific.
