Keep optimistic and just go for it. I went back to school after nearly 16 years and found it to be much easier. I was older wiser and more mature. Additionally, I was paying for it and wanted to be there. Those were big motivating factors. The butterflies will go away in about 3 minutes into your first class. Good luck and enjoy!

I've been exactly where you are. I returned to get my advanced degree after being out in the working world for about 6 years. Believe it or not, it's not bad at all. There is a mix of ages and even the immature students are fun to be around. Just remember that you are all there for a common purpose. You'll do just fine, better yet, you'll do great!

What are you so afraid of. Most colleges have an placement exam which tells them which classes to put you into (according to your ability level). Even if you find yourself struggeling in any particular classes, there are tutors available. Yes, you may not make a whole lot of friends your age there, but you aren't there for a popularity contest, you are there to better yourself.
In short, just tell yourself all the things that you would be telling you children when they are starting something new that they are afraid of. Good Luck!

I don't know what to tell you to do. I don't know if you believe in God or not, but I would tell you to pray first. Lot's of people go back to work or into school after years of doing other things. I would tell you to just jump in and do it. If you are going to school I am sure you will do fine, and I hope you will be studying something that will better yourself, and that it is something that is interesting to you. Have a support system---friends or family...that is really important. Best of luck to you!

Sometimes you just have to do it. Feel the fear as you are doing what you need to do. fear is not necessarily a bad thing. it is what motivates us and keeps us safe. In your case, use it for motivation and you will be just fine. (I promise that starting school again is not going to do anything but good in your life.! Good luck!

Look to the future and a hold on to a vision of how it will help you in your pursuits in life. I went back to school a 35 and it helped me achieve my goal.

If you've been out of school, odds are your about 28, thus you need to grow up and don't be a baby about it, school is nothing, i assume your going back for a bachelors or masters and if it's a bachelors don't even sweat it. You'll never know if you don't try
