Lass means a young girl, and lad means a young boy. They were common titles in the Legion of Super Heroes (and parodies of them.) For example, there was Lightning Lad, a teenager who could throw lightning bolts (that was his only super power) and his sister Light Lass, who could make things weightless. (That was her only super power.) They had a rule that each member had to have one unique super power, though they had exceptions for Superboy and Supergirl.

I believe it is Scottish. Lass or Lassy is referring to a girl (not a women) and lad is referring to a boy (not a man).

it is a term of affection
actually I'm not sure if its scotish too??
