I roll 3-4-5-6-6 on my first roll, but I hate taking the small straight before I get a large. Should I keep the sixes or go for a large straight? I think it's only an 11/36 probability of getting a 2 in the next two rolls, though. What if the first roll is 2-3-4-5-5? Is the 5/9 probability of getting a large worth it?

I'd keep the small straight......and then you've got two more rolls to get a large straight. If you don't get the large straight, then at least you've got the small one already.

I think it depends what already have filled in on your card. I would normally hold the two sixes (or other high number), because you still have a shot at yahzee - an excellent 3 or 4 of-a-kind - full house - sixes (you only need 3 of each number on the top to earn the bonus) OR (as last resort) a high scoring chance if nothing else works. I just let the straights fill in when I don't have any doubles on the first roll. I don't know the probabilities of it all - but it works for me! Yahzee ROCKS!

I agree with Benny, I usually keep the small straight and try for the large on in the next two roll, I find straights hard to get.

If you need 6's, or 4 of a kinds I'd keep the 6's. Otherwise ,keep the small straight.

I usually go for 6's in this case. To go for the large I prefer to have both ends open. Of course it also matters where your at in the game and what's still open. Small straights are a dime a dozen.

Oh, yeah, sixes. All that other stuff always comes up later (almost), but you need high sixes for the bonus! Can't tell you how many times I've missed sixes when I needed them!
And then, there's always chance if all you get is two sixes.
