Besides the sea salt (such as Reef Crystals or Instant Ocean to name just two brands), you will also need a Hydrometer or Refractometer (Refractometer is more expensive normally but also more accurate and easier to read) to measure the salinity or specific gravity. Most saltwater tanks will have a specific gravity of around 1.021 - 1.025.

Go to a pet store and by the sea salt NOT the aquarium salt. The sea stuff has extra nutrients that marine fish need. Then, put the salt in the water according to the directions on the box.

Go To a pet shop and by SEA SALT like answer1 said it has nutrients in it. it will have instructions on making saltwater DO NOT USE TABLE SALT!!!!!!! and dont buy aqaurium salt it is for freshwater fish!!! for disease prevention and better gill function.

if you re fish isnt come from the ocean then you dont really need to put any salt in the fish tank cause not all fishes are come from the ocean . plus if its come from the petsmart store you can get use normal water from the sink but cant be so cold water just midium water for the fish . but you dont need to use salt .

You add salt to water. That's it. That's all there is to it. How much salt you want to add to the water depends on what you want to use the salt water for.
