Please don't go crazy! Nor cry, nor be sleep deprived! ;) Just remember a few things. First, listen to everyone, but use common sense and make up your own mind. Also, look for a mother who has done it right and ask her how she did it. She and her baby will be well rested, happy, content and the little One will be thriving.
Remember also, that human beings are creatures of habit and our bodies work best with routine. My families 109 year old pediatrician has always recommended having a nice gentle schedule so that baby's body will have a rhythm. 7am, 11am, 3pm, 7pm and 11pm is an excellent start. At 10:30 am you can give your baby a nice warm morning bath, feed him and place down for a late morning nap. Your baby will doze a good amount during the day, and also he will spend a good amount of time crying. Not all crying is bad or means something is terrible. A little one has many pockets in the lungs and without deep breaths (that would come from some crying) will help open these passages. Also, baby has no way to exercise and release tension in the muscles. I have seen many a baby be stiff, fussy all day long and doesn't sleep well. If baby is fed well, clothed not too warm nor too cool and a clean diaper, give his just a bit of time lying on his tummy to push out air (which will relieve colic), exercise his neck muscles, and to exercise his full body. After the 7pm feeding you can lay your sweet baby down for his nite, picking him up again at 11pm for the last feeding (keeping the room quiet and dark and laying him back down in a cradle or bassinett next to your bed). I promise he will begin to sleep thru the nite in about 3 days. Remember that it only takes 3 times to create a habit. It will help you be well rested for the next day so that you can build a happy home! :) God Bless. diannatriplett@yahoo.com

Sleep deprivation is a part of parenting. You just have to try to sleep (nap) when he does. You can also try giving him a warm bottle (if you don't nurse) or supplementing his breast milk with formula if you do nurse. The last feeding can be replaced by formula which takes longer to digest. Try a warm bath too just before you put him down. Make sure you are using the most absorbent brand of diaper so that wet diapers don't make him wake up. Even these measures may not really increase his length of time sleeping.
He will eventually sleep through the night, but you can't force the issue.

Following a routine helps. I gave my son a bath every night, and my wife breastfed him to sleep (he sleeps in our bed). If all else fails we would walk him around, bounce or rock him while patting his back, and turn on a fan or run some water to create some white noise. He's 4 months old now and he still fusses a little during the night. It really just takes patience and time. It'll get easier.
You shouldn't use cereal as recommended by previous posters. You can talk to your pediatrician, and I'm sure he/she will tell you not to use any food until at least 4 months (mostly due to increased risk of allergies).

This is quite normal. He is only 9 weeks old, if he keeps waking up then he needs to be fed. Do you breastfeed or bottle feed?
If you breastfeed let him sleep with you, that way you can feed him in bed and he will sleep better. I did this with my children and never had any sleep problems as they were always right next to me and feeding was so much easier in the middle of the night.
Do NOT give him any food he is to young.
Welcome to parenthood. It gets better as they get older as he will need less feeds during the night. Good Luck.
Oh yeah and have naps when he does during the day.

get him into a routine of sleep and awake time throughout the day. Wake him up at the same time everyday and put him to bed at the same time every night. I have a 6 week old and this works well with him. I also only put him in his bed at night, and let him nap during the day in a different spot, this seems to help too.

The doctors tell you not to feed your baby cereal but as my mother did me and I did my children was give them a little rice cereal and they slept very well. Sometimes the babies are hungry because the milk goes straight through them. You have to make it real watery but by adding some cereal to there formula it makes the milk a little thicker so it makes them sleep better. They make bottles now especially for cereal and milk. But I chose to feed my children out of a spoon just like my mother did me and my siblings. It trains them to eat from a spoon and not want the bottle all of the time as well as breast feeding.

enable your infant sleep! take income of any relax you get. Your infant will awaken and assist you recognize if he's hungry. My infant is 4 months previous and she or he developed her own agenda round 6 weeks. She has been napping by ability of the evening 8-9 hours for more effective or less 6 weeks now.

Why don't you play some nice, quiet music like classical music. I've heard that it puts babies to sleep. And I've heard that Mozart will make your baby smarter, as well.
