I HAVE DREADLOCKS AND TATTOOS, AND PEOPLE ALWAYS ASK IF THEY CAN TOUCH MY HAIR! I ALWAYS DECLINE, AND GIVE OUT DIRECTIONS TO A LOCAL PETTING ZOO!

I would say "Why do you want to be part of the herd?". I took all of my piercing out in 1996 because anyone with a buck was getting pierced.
Face the facts kids; if everyone is doing it, you're no longer an individualist.

"why would you want to do that?" It's not exactly a stupid question but it's obnoxious because it should be obvious that the only real answer would be a personal one and I don't have to tell strangers personal stuff about myself. It's usually accompanied by the question, "what's the significance". Again, not a stupid question it just demands a personal answer and, as a stranger, they are out of line. I usually feel forced to give an answer like, "I just wanted to" which then prompts them to tell me that that's not a 'good enough' reason.
