are there items i can buy to cover up the ugly array of pc cables

There are rubber tubes that you can put your wires in, but if you have too many cables, i would suggest buying more than one, but first tying the cables using some flexible wires, (garden wires aren't bad) and then insert the tubes.

For the HD cables, just get these: Round Ata133 Ide 40pin, 3conn, 18in, Black.

yes there is, just do a YAHOO! search for computer wire covers...plenty to buy online, or phone your favorite electronics store (they should see them)
