Goodness, your options are endless.
If this is a community newspaper, how about a Know Your Neighbor column that gives a 800 to 1200 word profile on someone in the community every issue? Include pictures.
If it serves a particular reader set and covers a wide area, how about business profiles or "heroes" profiles?
Column on a different local student who is doing something noteworthy.
Humor column.
Travel column.
Advice column.
English bloopers column. Include headlines, quotes and misspellings that catch your eye and funny bone. Be sure to site your sources!
Really, the ideas are endless.
