ethyl is 2 carbons. yne is triple bond so...

HC triple bond CH (sorry can't draw a triple bond here)

2 butyne

well butane is 4 carbons. yne is again triple bond
and the 2 means which bond is triple .. not the first but the second. so the structure is

CH3 - C =- C -CH3 where =- is my symbol for a triple bond..

so what would 1 butyne look like???
and what would 3 pentyne look like if I told you pentane was 5 carbons????
