i was in foster care from the ages of 14-18, and not sure if that means i cant become a social worker. Anyone have any ideas as to whether this would help or hinder my chances?

How awesome! Go for it! I have been a social worker for 9 years. This will absolutely NOT stop you from doing this and can help you really connect w/ the issues your clients face. I would only suggest that you go into the field for the right reasons- to help people, to be a change agent, to make a difference. Please be sure to make sure you're ready- although you will learn so much about yourself and your own history, you have to be healthy enough to deal w/ the issues your clients are coming to you with. And that can take a lot of work for everyone, myself included. If you want, please email me at beachlvr6419@yahoo if you have more questions!

It certainly wouldn't hurt your chances. I know other social workers who were in care when they were younger. I was never in care but had quite a turbulent childhood and as a young mother spent several months in a women's aid refuge. I think this gives me a different perspective to those who lead more sheltered lives.
Good luck

You cn still become a social worker no matter what your background, so long as you don't have any serious criminal convictions

Sure it would give you a great insight as to what the kids want rather than need.
