yes it is ... its a way corrupt bankers have figured to gain a monopoly on controlling the amount of money and have passed legislation guaranteeing that the interest of loans made to our govt are backed up by the peoples taxes ...since the same people have the power to print money out of nothing and nothing backing it up, that "interest" is 100% profit to them ... its a devious scam ... probably the worst one ever perpetrated on a nation of people ...
... and a correction on the above answer is that the wording is correct, however congress is not the ones in control of it the federal reserve board is ... a privately run-for-profit corporation.

Hello...
While for now, it is "legal".....we all should know by now that just because something is legal, that doesn't mean that it is right.
The founding fathers would never have allowed it, and tried to word the constitution to prevent precisely this sort of tax, but, well....the courts have found ways to bypass their logic.
In short, Americans were "duped" into supporting this tax, as a "war tax", first tried during the civil war, and then, permanently during the early days of WWI. We never could free ourselves from war debt before the great depression came, when "big government" became necessary, to save the nation from starving. And it's been riding on our backs ever since.
While I realize the necessity of big government in the 1930's, I feel that it should have been dismantled in the post-WWII era, but then we had a whole new batch of War Debt to pay off.
It is no great mystery how we got here....one just has to backtrack to find it.....
The sad thing is, is that if our government would have paid off a lot of the debt during the "golden years" of the 1950's, when American manufacturing was so strong, and the American standard of living was growing so fast that no one could keep up with it, we really wouldn't have such a high tax to this day.
Now, when things have been only "luke warm" at best for 30 years, the burden of "big government" seems to be taking a lethal toll.
Namaste,
--Tom

Because it's not illegal. No-one has EVER won a case that he didn't have to pay income taxes for any of the "Income tax is illegal" reasons that the tax protester crowd loves to put forward. If you actually read the case cites for any of the people the protesters claim 'won', you find that in most cases they were just acquitted of "failure to file' charges, because they persuaded a jury that they believed their own BS and really believed that they didn't have to file, making the failure to do so not "willful", and therefore not criminal. NONE of them, though, have ever beaten the underlying tax evasion charges. This is an Internet myth. Richard

It is completely legal.
Read the constitution:
"The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatever source derived, without apportionment among the several states, and without regard to any census or enumeration."

No. This urban myth is getting tiresome. Check the constitution and you will see you are wrong. Or don't pay and see what happens to you. Maybe you will like it in jail.
