Whether or not abortion should be outlawed is entirely the wrong question to ask? Clearly there are isolated circumstances in which abortion is justifiable, usually involving rape; however, in the GREAT majority of cases abortion is used as an alternative means of birth control. The correct question is whether or not abortion, in it's most common form, is morally acceptable. In all other areas of life citizens are forced to deal with the consequences of their actions, yet our nation allows it's people to easily, and without any relevant consequence, discontinue the life of a fetus. Enough of this "we have to give woman the right to make that choice" crap....abortion is murder in it's simplest form and even the most enthused, educated pro-choicers can't argue that fact. I am by no means attempting to suggest that facing the reality of unwanted pregnancy is easy; however, this idea that abortion is somehow a "fundamental right" is makes me ill

We already tried that before - it's a mess.
1) the rich do want they want and fly to europe, so the laws immediately are discriminatory - the poor are permitted no control over the reproductive lives. in fact, the supreme court only rules in the 1960s that MARRIED americans had a right to use birth control!!!
2) women will always choose whether or not to become a mother. abortions have been carried out since civilization began. therefore, the laws do not stop the behavior, only criminalize it. therefore, there is no regulation and women seeking the services often died when getting services from unqualified, unclean practioners. the cost to society of young women - many many times young mothers - dying is far greater than any (theoretical) cost of abortion.
3) the objection to abortion in the first trimester is strictly on religious grounds that this fetus actually has a soul - and the grounds of a very narrow group of monotheists, most monotheists do not support bans on abortion - and the laws of our nation must not have solely a religious basis. that is why laws treating homosexuals differently than heterosexuals are treated are unconstitutional - you may not impose religious beliefs on those who do not hold your beliefs.
4)families must be free to chose their size. to force families to have more children than they determine that they can care for is to damage the humans who are actually here.
There are no good reasons abortions shouldn't be legal and as long as the pro-life people in this country tolerate the mass murder committed in our name by bush in iraq, their lamentations over unborn unwanted fetuses seems nothing short of pathetic.

It's the women's body should can do whatever she wants with it.
That isn't the case with drugs, suicide, why should it be with abortion.
It isn't just the women's body. If that were the case could a women have a penis. If she was pregnant with a boy she would but the boy is an other individual.
You can't say 'well the women has to use her body to take care of the infant." Well after the baby is born it still is dependant on the mother, and if not the mother someone else. The difference is that one case is legal and the other isn't.
A mother can give up her baby and have someone else take care of the child to a baby born. A mother that is pregnant doesn't have the oppurtunity. But the mother of the born child still has to take care of the child until she gives it up. It isn't legal to say "On the way to the firehouse, I got impatient that I have this child in my car! So I killed it. " The mother has to take care of the child until help arrives. She is the one that got pregnant. Life isn't fair, but we don't kill people because they get in our way. We have to wait it out.
It hurts women....Women suffer after abortion. It is linked with breast cancer, and many women become depressed and suicidal after abortion. Abortionist don't help afterwords. They simply don't care. They just wanted the money.
It hurts a majority of Women. If this was a drug it would be taken off the market because of the number of people it was hurt. Significant number of people hurt would cause the government to take it off the market. But they don't.
Yes, abortion has been around since probably the beginning of the world and so has many other inhumune practices. So because it's been around since the beginning, should we make it legal because it's just part of human nature?

You have a hot topic for a project. I'm not saying its right or wrong...but I think (my own opinions) that the law has no right to dictate what I do with my body. If I was in teh position of having to decide...I would weigh all my options and decide what was best for me...its my choice...not a group of (mostly male) politicians.
