Nah, they're staying as the Pittsburgh Penguins. Sidney will make them stay.

The penguins have a long history in Pittsburgh. Plan B is more than a viable plan to keep the team right in the "burgh" where they belong. Even if they do move i dont see the name being changed. The penguins have a deep history that any city that gets them will want to play off of.

If they stay in Pittsburgh, they'll remain as the Penguins. If they move, the name will definitely be changed. You don't want to uproot a team, move it to a new city, and still have the same old tired name from the last place they played. It would be too nostalgic, moving a team is all about fresh starts, new beginnings. A new name would be mandatory.

Penguins is a pretty generic name for a hockey team, so I imagine they will keep it even if they move. It's not regional like Nordiques or Whalers. After all, the Flames and the (no longer North) Stars are still with us. With the Jets, the name was a tribute to the importance of Winnipeg to Canadian aviation, hence their football team is the Blue Bombers.
I imagine that the Flames would have been given a western-type name when they moved, but the obvious ones-Stampeders, Riders, Cowboys, were already taken by football teams.

Well IF they move then yeah they should change the name. That doesn't mean they will, I think as long as Mario owns the team though there is a chance that he will change it. Penguins just doesn't work out well with Kansas City, which is the most likely place for the move or most expected place.

It'll change. Like when the browns moved they kept the rights to the name so that when they got an expansion they could name them the browns again. God knows why, worst name in pro sports. GO PENS!!!
PS KC used to have a hockey team named the scouts.

they will hopefully stay in pittsburgh. if they move, they will keep the nickname - it's one of the best and most recognized logos in hockey and their uniforms are great.
speaking of -- anyone else think the utah jazz in the NBA need to change the nickname? started off as the new orleans jazz (makes sense), moved to utah, kept the nickname. makes no sense.

i doubt it, both the team and the name are doing well so there's really no need to change it. besides, the fans wouldn't like it at all, so they won't do it in a hurry!
and erm, about staying updated: check the NHL website. i also came into the hockey world very recently (like 2 or 3 months ago), and i live in the netherlands, but i keep myself updated through that site and the sites of several nhl teams that i like. really, livign outside the usa or canada is no excuse not to stay updated!! trust me on that one ;)
