ok my dog is a terrier schnauzer mix and it ate a small done and now it is making coughing noises

Bones can splinter , especially chicken bones , they tear a dogs intestines.

What did it eat? If it is coughing after eating something has irritated it, if the dog is having problems breathing or appears to be panicking then you have something to worry about.
If it ate something that animals are not supposed to eat, you have reason to be concerned.
If he seems okay for now keep an eye on him if the symptoms worsen, call a vet.
My cat ate a pancake and was coughing because the pancake was dry.

look in your dogs mouth. Whatever it ate could be stuck to the top of it's mouth. That happend to me when my dog dot into the peanutbutter! Scrape it off and your dog should be fine. Hope that helps!

Mabye it has something in it throat. It will be ok it will digest. : )
