Use a laundry soap formulated for darks and only about half the recommended amount, use cold water, if you can, only wash them on the short cycle, hang dry. use a bit of fabric softener so they won't be stiff.
Have you ever tried dry cleaning them? When I worked at one I noticed that alot of the people who wore really nice looking jeans had theirs done.

If you wash them inside out, and in cold water , the color should last longer. I dry them inside out also, ...I am not sure if the dryer sheet aids in making them fade quicker or not.
It also depends on how often you wash them too i suppose....
Being a woman, I have plenty pairs of jeans to alternate.
I like my dark levis..they seem to keep the color okay.
