The outer most layer of the earth is known as the ionosphere. It is made up of charged ionic particles from space and other light (less dense) gasses (nitrogen, helium ect.). Outside of that it is commonly known as space. From the surface up you have the lithosphere (surface), troposphere(where most of the weather occurs), stratosphere (about 10,000 ft+) and then the ionosphere, the outer most layer.
