Ok don't laugh.... Is it ok for boys to knit, I have been and doing a very good job of it. I didn't think I could do it but I did out of curiosity. I just asked my god mother about a few things and she made fun of it.

But seriously if a 14 year old male is good at knittng should he continue?

There is nothing wrong with that at all! Actually, it's pretty cool that he's so unique, and feels comfortable enough to be able to explore what he likes without having to be what other people expect him to be. In addition, those skills will also improve his dexterity, motor skills, and hand eye coordination. Just as a side note, to let you know that there is nothing wrong with this, my child's 6th grade class did knitting as an actual class activity every week. And the boys liked it more then the girls. Lastly, if you watch/read the anime "Bleach" one of the main characters is a guy ( Uryū Ishida) who happens to be the captain of the fine crafts club, and is a master of sewing and design!

Your godmother is a jerk. What a thing to say! Yes, men knit. One of the most beautiful sweaters I've evern seen was made by a highschool phys ed teacher. In some societies, only men knit.

Now I wouldn't be spreading the word around that you knit, other kids can be cruel. Just do it privately and enjoy it. It is very relaxing. Make me a nice Icelandic or Irish fisherman's knit sweater??

Knitting by men started in the fishing communities. You've seen all the sweaters with patterns on like cabling?. There was a very practical reason for this. If a fisherman was washed overboard and his body washed up days/weeks later, identification would be difficult, so it was done by his sweater. Each one would be original. I think it started in Cornwall, but it is not an effeminate thing to do. You could end up making a living from it.

Good luck and do what you want, not what others think you should. Ignore her; it's never been an exclusively female skill. Kaffe Fassett is probably the best known knitwear designer in the world and he's a man.
It was one of the tradition crafts of fishermen and sailors as well as shepherds; in fact almost any occupation which involved long hours/days of isolation and potential boredom. It was a way of relaxing yet spending the time constructively.
The same applies to crochet; I was taught to crochet as a teenager by a friends younger brother.
The first person I ever saw do embroidery was an ex-seaman who lodged with my grandmother; it would be a brave person who laughed at him!!

Of course it's okay to knit, even if you're a guy. I think it's great that you learned to knit & by all means, continue if you enjoy it so much. Do you remember Rosy Grier? He was a pro football player & he enjoyed needle point. Too bad your godmother made fun of it. If you like to knit, then go for it. I wished I knew how!

When you become the NEXT HOTTEST fashion designer tell whoever laughed at ya to go bugger off.....

Shur it's all right for a guy to knit.

And just for that. I don't thnk your godmother should get any of your knitting without payin for it when it becomes popular.

Ah... She probably rides a harley and has a chain connected to her wallet....

Nothing wrong with that. When my kids were young I knitted their jumpers `cos my wife didn`t knit, besides don`t fishermen repair their nets, looks like knitting to me, and they`re a pretty tough
bunch.

Of course you should continue and my hat is off to you. I think it is Roosevelt Greer who was a big football player and he crocheted. It is a wonderful hobby and if you enjoy it why not. Your Godmother should be ashamed of herself for making fun of you. I am a woman and I drive a tractor so why shouldn't you knit if you enjoy it. Do not let people control your life, keep your own power and enjoy whatever you like. You can be whatever you want to be!
