I got my tongue pierced about two months ago and of all the piercings I've had it hurt the least. BUT you've got to be prepared for the aftermath. Living on ice-cream and soup for a week is murder. Also until you get used to eating again you'll keep chewing the bar which hurts your teeth. Talking is really funny. I work in a bar so have to be talking all day and night. By the time I finished work my mouth was numb and I couldn't speak at all! It only lasts a week or two though and I think it was worth it cause I love mine.

I had mine done for 7 years (had to take it out for work, boo!!!) but I didn't find it too bad although everybody is different. It doesn't actually hurt getting it done it should be numbed but it aches like hell for a day or two but nothing a couple of painkillers won't fix. One thing I have to say is make sure you get it done at a reputable place as much as we don't realise it our tongue is very delicate and filled with lots of blood supply and nerve endings and all it takes is an inexperienced artist to paralyse your face. You will initially be fitted with a very large bar which is annoying and clangs around your mouth but will go back a week later once the swelling has subsided for a correct fitting, again very important as incorrect sizing will annoy, aggravate the wound and could result in infection which could give you septicaemia or cause your tongue to split. These are worst case scenario's though to make you aware how important the correct piercer is, don't be put off I definitely recommend it I adored mine and miss it soooo much. Good luck.

Im a body piercer and if done properly it wont hurt and depending on which style of peicing you ahve done will determine on how much swelling you have becasue the tongue is a muscle and they dont take to kindly to being hurt they swell. eg: the standard tongue peircing goes vertically through the tongue and take around 1 - 2 weeks for the swelling to go down and you are living off of cold thing and soupr for a few days.... or the new wave of tongue piercings go horizonatally through the surface of the tongue and look as though you ahve it done twice as both of the ends of the bar are on the top of the tongue, its done with a curved barbell (banana bar) and there is minimal if any swelling with this piercing as its through the surface not eh muclse but be warned when tis been done in this way it will blees heavily for a few mins but this is the swelling coming out ina diff way!!
which ever way you have it done if done by a good piercer thwy will numb it and although you ar aware of it happening it doesnt hurt!!!! ive had it done three times now and my man loves it! as for the cmment of Chav! you need to take a look at the generation of today, chavs have thier eyebrows and lips and ears done, the tongue is seen as a play thing not something that seemingly makes you look hard. body piercing is an art and an expression of freedoms of speech not a symbo of chav or not!!!

Here's the info. I used to have 3 piercings on my tongue....arranged vertically :D
The pain at the moment is not so bad...compare it like hmm piercing your ears or so. The pain comes afterwards lol when your tongue get swollen and you talk funny, only for like 3 days though.
If you're gonna get it, i recommend:
1. eat before you get it.
2. Do not take the tongue ring out until it heals, your tongue is gonna get swollen, and look like it's gonna rip the ring, but it'll go down.
3. Wash with listerine after EVERY meal, even water.
other than that, it's all good.....just be careful cause they close VERY fast. The pain and swelling only last for like 3 days, after that everything goes back to normal. Good Luck

when I had mine done, it didn;t hurt but was told to eat soft food for three days ie soup. Just remember that metal conducts heat and soup is very hot, wait for it to cool down. Ice lollies are good.
For three days its more annoying than painful, sore when you speak etc. Personally the worst part was sleeping with the bar in my mouth. Couldn't remember where I used to put my tongue when I slept.
Good luck
