Hello there,
I need good advice from people with a good understanding of spells & witchcraft.
I found witchcraft interesting and read up alot on it,I decided it wasnt for me though as from what I read from text books I had to follow a religion to do spells, which I didnt want to do.
My question is, can I do a spell for myself a spell to ease my jealousy without having to follow any witchcraft religion/law? Will anything bad happen to me if i did do a spell and not follow a witchcraft religion if that makes sence?
Thanks so much for any feedback

So to do a simple spell like crumble an old leaf and visualize my jealousy going away, would I have to call on the elements protection or cast a protective circle or can I just do this spell sitting on the bed without any of the above???? thanks

Interesting question! Keep in mind that Wicca is a religion, but witchcraft is more the craft of doing magick. So one can be a magick user without being a Wiccan. (In fact, many brujerias are strongly Catholic!)
That said, you do need to believe in the energies of magic to work well with them. You still might want to cast a protective circle, and ask for assistance/protection from the elements of the north, south, east, and west, although some hedge witches don't worry with those details.
In fact, earth magic might be the perfect compromise for you (check out the Cunningham book, below). Simply find something that can be disintegrated, like a dry brown leaf or a handful of snow. Stare at it and say, "This is my jealousy." Really FEEL your jealousy going into the item. Then--let it disintegrate. Crumble the leaf into bits and blow them away, or go into a warm room and watch the snow melt out of your hand. Say, "As this X fades, so does my jealousy fade. So mote it be."
Cunningham gives more information than that :-)
----- Edited to Add:
Many kitchen witches and hedge witches don't cast a circle--I probably wouldn't, for something as grounded as natural magic with a leaf, largely because I don't *want* to be in a place symbolically out of time and space to do that kind of magic. Also, I'm in no way, shape, or form a ritual magick user. But for the first few years that I did magic, I would have done a protective circle, and many witches use a circle for *all* spells.
If the ritual of the circle makes you feel safer, or doesn't matter either way, then use one. But if something about the ritual of it freaks you, then simply start with the affirmation "I am safe," and go from there. The benefit of the leaf spell is that you're already touching an element of earth, which is protective (hence the use of salt, and the superstition to "touch wood").
Blessed be!

You don't need to a religion to practice Witchcraft. The religion acts as an ethical guideline.

Anyone can do witchcraft and/or spells, you don't have to follow wicca (which is NOT witchcraft, it is a modern religion with a hierachy system) Two often quoted occult/magic(k) phrases are: Crowley's 'Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law' and the broader Pagan, 'If it harms none, do as you will'. My advice is to do whatever you feel will help get rid of your jealousy, the point of ritual & spellcraft is to focus the mind. So long as whatever you choose to do is not to intentionally harm anyone you should be alright. There are many good spell books available, and some good sites on the net. I wish you well in your endeavours, and hope your jealously is controlled.

I'd suggest starting with Natural Magick and go from there.
Avoid anything by someone who has a name that makes them sound as if they've come directly out of a Harry Potter Movie.
Plus never, never walk before you learn to crawl, you'll just get yourself in trouble.

The main thing necessary for a spell to work is the belief on the part of the person casting it that it will work. A person does not have to be a follower of any specific religion associated with magic or witchcraft to be able to use it. There are even Christian witches. A better idea for the spell would be to make the person in question stop dong things that make you jealous, rather than trying to make your jealousy go away.

You do not have to follow the Wiccan religion to do spells or be a witch. I am a Witch, but I am not Wiccan.
The real point here is, really, what it is you are jealous about. Any amount of spells, herbal healing, and crystal talismans will not help without removing/negating the cause of the jealousy. spells are not the answer to everything.
email me if you want to talk, but this is what I would do if you don't want to:
write down what is bothering you on a piece of paper. Really think about it, no half truths, nobody is going to read it. Get a heat proof dish/bowl/whatever and put the paper in it. Really FEEL your jealousy going into what you have written. Then set fire to the paper, imagining your jealousy consumed by the cleansing flame.
As I said, email if you want to talk in confidence.
laffin57, please read up on what a warlock is. That's a really offensive name for a male witch, not something to be proud of. you are a witch, the term does not just apply to females.

Spells/witchcraft is like religion, just nonsense. Don't waste your time with it.

laffin57 - warlock is an offensive term to describe a male witch, and doing your own spells is the point is it not? I've never in my whole life as a pagan ever come across that before!
anyway to answer your question you don't HAVE to do 'spells' to belong to witchcraft, and its no different to a church goer praying...
no I'm not a witch but my husband is (yes a male witch not a warlock) I'm an Anglo-Saxon Heathen. and not all pagans are wiccan.

all you need to get clear in youre mind is the best most convincing way you can conceive of enacting magic, that resonates for you personally....then make up all your own rituals and spells.
if batman is a potent archetype for you..use batman.,..if someone else..usew them.
do it yourself and you will make it more real

the leaf crumbling is good, simple and effective. as far as needing a protective barrier, it's always a good idea for casting. a simple barrier is to clear your mind and imagine a white light around your body to protect you, then expand the light to encompass the room. good luck and happy casting.
