because you want to get everything but y to one side. So, subtract x from each side
-y = 4 - x
and divide each side by -1
y=-4 + x which is the same as y=x-4

well it aint gonna work because I think you mean y= mx + b

given you understand the problem, then:

x-y = 4 is changed to

-y= 4 -x

which cleans up to

y = -4 + x

which becomes

y= x-4 (c)
