Good Lord, let's just forget that there are over 40 skilled players that will see a snap on one side of the ball or the other that are professionals and really good at what they do or they wouldn't be in a conference championship. Is there superstition involved somewhere? Payton Manning will have to get over his failure complex about facing Brady and company at home in the playoffs. He has never beaten Brady in the dome during the playoffs and he lost 6 in a row to Brady before winning in Foxboro twice in a row. I think he will make it to the "big dance" when and only when he stops the blame game on his own teammates and realizes that the world does not rest on his narrow redneck shoulders.

I mean that a winner never, never blames his teammates by saying things like, "I can't play defense too." A winner knows this is an endeavor only to be reached by knowing you have support and trusting teammates' judgement and accepting their mistakes. Humility may be the key.

You are absolutely right.

It's a phenomenon that is born of statistics. For some reason, the longer and more prolifically a team suffers, the more people feel they are "due." Bad luck, longer losing streaks, etc. See also the Boston Red Sox. They were "due" for decades.

In the end, it is entirely based on the skills of the players involved, and as you say in this case, whether one skinny red neck can rise above his playoff mediocrity.

The question is which team has the best chance, and that has still got to be the Chargers. With the way they looked in the playoffs last year, they'll be hard to pick against next year. Also, Rivers and Jackson will be connecting a lot more this year, and LT is still LT. Though the Broncos will be better, Cutler is still unproven and they haven't done much to improve their front seven. That's what got them in trouble last year. The Raiders will always suck. Instead of drafting Dorsey to solidify their pothetic D-Line, they go out and get another RB. I like McFadden, but come on... too many holes in that team. KC might be good in a couple years, but they're clearly rebuilding. Give them a year or two and they'll be duking it out with the Broncos for the top spot in the AFC West.

If you follow football at all, you will notice that certain teams are always in the playoffs. Some manage to go on and win the entire thing several times (Patriots to name one team) and other teams are always teams that "go to the dance" but never really "dance" or manage to win and go on and then win the big prize, the Super Bowl. The Colts are one of those teams and I believe, and I'm not alone, in thinking that the Colts are "due" to win, have the personnel together to win, and their Coach has hung in there all these years to try and win. That doesn't go without saying that there are many other teams in that same position; but the Colts have paid their dues! But again, they need to win this weekend to gain the respect (over the Patriots) and to earn that right to have a chance at winning the Super Bowl.

If you keep showing up in the championship, sooner or later you are going to win one...The football gods will shine down on you...The other team will fumble 5 times and toss a few interceptions...You'll get a couple of bad calls go your way!

If you keep showing up and tossing your helmets out there, sooner or later you get lucky!

The Colts are due if anyone is!

"I think he will make it to the "big dance" when and only when he stops the blame game on his own teammates and realizes that the world does not rest on his narrow redneck shoulders."

So...are you saying that Peyton needs to carry his team or not? If you're saying that he needs to stop blaming his teammates, then you're saying he needs to start taking personal responsibility for the outcome of the games. But then you say that its not all about him?

And the Colts arent "due" the championship, no one "owes" it to them, but the law of probability says that the odds are high that you cant keep losing AFC championship games over and over. If the Colts lose to the Pats again, they'd be second in futulity only to the Jim Kelly-era Bills.
