Gardening is an excellent hobby, it can be hard work but also relaxing at the same time and very rewarding when things start to grow....
knitting - learn to picture knit and design your own...
cooking - we all like to eat.......
photography - digital cameras are such a great thing, you can see what you've got without having to process thus not wasting money on unwanted images, photos make great presents..........
so much to do, so little time...
try anything and everything, you will find something that takes your interest and you will always find new things along the way

Oh where to start... Skateboarding is a fun hobby. Not too costly either, unless you count medical bills. Paintball is a very fun adrenaline pumping sport. The paintballs don't even hurt that much. I heard they hurt a lot, but when I was hit by them, I hardly noticed the pain because I was so into the game. The downside is that you need a place to play it and people to play it with. It isn't too cheap either. Now bicycling can be fun if you have someone to do it with. Once you get a bike it is very cheap and low risks and it keeps you physically fit. I hope I gave you some ideas!

If you live in a town/city that holds adult education classes-check them out-they usually include their large brochures of upcoming classes, projects, small fees, hours, locations, etc in the newspapers twice a year. and it also gives you ideas of hobbies you would not have thought of. I took adult ed classes for over 9 times including stained glass course, Norwegian Rosemaling (that turned into a business with items in almost every state in U.s. and 6 foriegn countries and never meant it to be a business)-painting, etc, etc.
Do you like sewing,i.e. by hand, quilting, cooking-(could turn into a catering business or sold in some local food/gourmet shop,) so many ideas,so little time. go for it! I ended up playing the organ, demonstrating cake decorating (and I don't like to cook but that was fun!)-You will meet so many wonderful people along the way.
