I'm German, and I told people I am, and people were like "Nazi!" It annoys me when that is the first thing people think of when they hear German. What's funny is that one of my friends is Jewish, and I was friends with an Israeli Jew.

People are really mean these days. They call you that because it is the first thing that pops into their brain. People associate Germans to be Nazi. It is great that they know about the Nazi to help prevent that from ever happening again. But they do not know you. It was Hilter that branded the Germans. The next time someone calls you a Nazi ask them why did they say that? Only then you will get you answer. But in the mean time don't take it personally.

It just comes down to ignorance, and the effects of American and British propaganda. Germans are portrayed very negatively on both British and American television still to this day, so people who have never been to Germany, and know nothing about Germans, believe that Germans are all Nazis. They're just idiots, who really need to travel a bit more.

Everyone does this?

If everyone does this, then what about you makes them instantly associate you with Nazis? Do they call other Germans Nazis too?

If they call every German by that offensive name, then you need to move as the people that you live with are crazy.

I'm part German and not a Nazi. Did these people happen to be mad at you or not like you or something? That's never happened to me.

You might want to "assume" another nationality until people really get to know you. I have often thought of classifying myself as Canadian if I was overseas a lot, since Americans get so much flack due to world events.
Sincere adults wouldn't call you that anyway. They've got a problem !
