Most shorts are pre-washed now so there will probably be little shrinkage...if they weren't pre-washed, then they may shrink up to an inch in the waist and an inch or two in length...

Yes they will. Always wash 100% cotton in cool water as it almost always shrinks the first couple of times. And is guaranteed to shrink if washed in hot water.

100% cotton will shrink. However, if you want to reduce the amount of shrinkage, wash them in cold water and don't put them in the dryer.

It depends on if they have been pre-shrunk or pre-washed. Most cotton things are pre-washed but if they aren't then yes, they'll shrink. They could also be stretched back out though.

This is a change is size the first time you wash them, I wouldn't call them a shrink, more likely resizing. It should be minimal. However washing in hotwater and hot dryer...all bets are off. To be safe, wash warm and dry warm.

Absolutely, in hot water they'll shrink a lot. In a hot dryer even more.

If they're prewashed the they shouldn't shrink. I would recommend checking the tag, it should say if they are or not.
