i'm not sure but some identical twins don't look exactly the same. I was told once that it depends upon when exactly the egg split and the earlier it split, the less alike they will look as there was more time for the zygotes to be independently affected by their environment. I am an identical twin and we look the same but we have always mirrored each other. put them in a mirror and you might find that they look like the other twin - its really funny! also, now we're 28, looking back I can see that we went through stages where we looked more and less alike. most children will catch up physically and developmentally by a certain point when born premature so give the littlun a chance to catch up with his bro. and even if they are a set of twins that don't look that alike, they are still identical and nobody can take that away! they are very special - congratulations!

I have identical twin sons, born 7 weeks premature due to twin to twin transfusion syndrome. At first they looked nothing alike!! Now at 2 1/2 years old, they are just starting to truely look identical. That might be the case with your twins. As for size difference, one of my twins has always been 1lb heavier and 1 inch taller....even still. The smaller of the two has never caught up completely, but the smaller of the two, started off the exact same weight as his brother, just had more health issues. Anyways, congrats on twins!! they are a blessing, hope all is well with them now. I know how scarey TTTS is!

I too, have identical twin boys, who are now 6.
When they were born (full term) they were noticeably different in size. twin 1 was Dylan and he was 6Lbs 11. Whereas twin 2 Cameron was just tipping the scales at 6Lbs.
To me, they were completely different. Dylan's face was long and structured and Cameron's face was tiny and perfectly round.
Despite this, i was still met with every ones astonishment at my ability to tell them apart!
When they reached the Toddler stage, the trouble began!!! I went into their room one morning to to wake them up and i had no idea which was Cameron and which was Dylan! It took almost 5 minutes for me to work it out, resulting in lifting their vests to look for Cameron's birthmark.
I can now look at my boys and think how different they look sometimes, mainly because their different personalities shine through them.
I still have the 'which ones which' syndrome every once in a while tho!!!! Only now, I'm met by 2 disgusted looks and knowing glances between them both. Especially in times of manic chaos when i call one of them by their little sisters name.......!!!

they should even out I was actually just watching something on this on the NG channel. and studies have shown that twins that are born at different sized do eventually during childhood catch up with each other. It is another mystery of twins.

There are ALWAYS miniscule differences between identical twins. A parent can always tell. So even if others can't tell the difference, you always will be. They will develop very different personalities if you let them; tho they will always be very twin-like.
Many strangers will never be able to tell them apart! (tee hee, that could be fun....)
Take great joy in your boys :) It's keeping them out of trouble as they grow up will be your next big worry!

My boys were diff. sizes due to a heart condition (one was more severe than the other) but now they are only a 1/4 lb diff. They look more and more alike everyday.

They may be different during childhood, but I believe during puberty they'll even out.
