Cambodia is still recovering from two decades of warfare and violence, including almost four years (1975-1979) of rule by the genocidal Khmer Rouge, with Pol Pot as their leader, who killed as many two million of Cambodia's seven million people and systematically sought to obliterate the country's pre -revolutionary culture. Small Khmer Rouge units remain a problem in northern areas of Cambodia, especially near the Thai border.
I have been to Cambodia and have been told horrific tales by the people who were involved. I have seen the bones on the ground of millions of people, I have seen the beggars with limbs missing because of all the mines that Pol Pot has placed and they are still there and people are still dying from them or being maimed.
The mines are being found and destroyed as much as possible but there are so many that it will take a long long time to rid them and stop the deaths and injuries.
These people are still suffering from "Agent Orange" as well and that was sprayed by the Americans during the Vietnam war.
The people of Cambodia are amazing people and they do not linger on the past. They get on with their lives and carry on regardless. Cambodia is one of the most poorest countries in Asia.
They have a cruel and corrupt government who never thinks twice about shooting someone with an opinion.
The government even sells part of it's country and kills all the residents to free it for the buyer.
If you are interested please read about Pol Pot and what he has done to learn more. I have given you only a small portion of the story. I'm sure there is a lot more on the net, but I doubt if it tells all.

Pol Pot was the leader of Cambodia who led the infamous and murderous Khmer Rouge. He was known to have butchered hundreds of thousands of people burying them in mass graves and witness to be seen as evidence was the numerous skulls located in one of his butchering sites. His impact on Asia was that he was one of the most evil leaders of Asia and the world.
