You know, like "I can't help myself."
I believe I am in control of myself to a certain point, even though I do use that phrase jokingly with the people close to me...

I never say it aloud, but it thunders often in my head after a lengthy internal argument. Sometimes I think "I can't help myself" could possibly be a loose translation of "I do not love myself enough to stop."

I can't help myself! I use it too a lot, jokingly....but I wonder if I really CAN'T help myself!

with somethings I can and with others NO ---I certainly cannot help it, it just happens! There are urges that simply cannot be controlled, no matter how much you try or you would like to.
