After 40,000 years of humanity's ascent and humanity's accumulation of knowledge and exploration of this planet, we have finally, in only the very recent past 100 years, reached a most amazing place in our experience. We are no longer merely isolated tribes or kingdoms or even nations. Because of mass communication, air travel, intercontinental missiles and a world economy, we are now, all of us, connected, like it or not. Communities and peoples who had essentially the same kind of people who all shared essentially the same cultural and spiritual beliefs and physical characteristics, are now bumping into people from all over the world. People with different beliefs and physical characteristics are now sharing communities. The adjustment to such diversity is very difficult for many people. Also, for the first time in our history, there are no new worlds on the planet for pilgrims and settlers and others to move to and carve out fresh new societies. The world, so to say, is locked up. People and civilizations have always had that pressure release valve for dissidents and the oppressed as an escape from failing, diseased and oppressive societies. Without that possiblity of escape from an unsatisfactory societies, humans surely will feel trapped and miserable, as a species. This "lock up" has never happened on this planet before. It will take us time to adjust. And, perhaps some good will come out of that, in that, maybe now we will have to learn better ways to manage ourselves, our societies, when problems arise. Instead of fleeing troubled societies, we will now have to face the problems. Also, subjective religious beliefs are in conflict with the tremendous breakthroughs in objective discoveries and new understandings about the natural world around us. The Pope a couple of years ago announced that we must embrace math and science. Yet, religious intolerance will persist for a time until the true goodness of people's spiritualities is rediscovered, so long hijacked in the husbandry by those who have used religion to control people. The failure of religions to have instilled the tolerance and love for all mankind, as evidenced by the intolerance and viciousness of fundamental Christians and Muslims, as examples, is contributing greatly to the suffering and misery of people all over the world. Those who believe that their "one-and-only-way-to-goodness" must be imposed upon everyone else, will fail, but not until they cause horrible violence. Unfortunately, some of our world leaders are all too aware of these intolerant peoples and the chaos that they can cause, and chose to exploit them to create social movements and distractions during the plunder of the remaining precious oil in the Middle East. The world is in a period of tremendous and tumultuous change. Anytime there is change, the most fearful and unbalanced among us are the first to fall apart. During such stressful times, psychologically and spiritually weaker humans can regress back into more primitive and savage forms of coping, such as racism, nationalism, fundamental religiosity and other forms of unhealthy coping. It is important, though, for those who are not so fearful, who are not spiritually bankrupt, to remain decent. Eventually, we will adjust and feel less fearful. Goodness always wins. Eventually.

An end!
Nah, just kidding. The world will get more and more messed up the more people there are. If there were less people, there would be fewer Tom Cruises, OJ Simpsons, Olsen twins, etc. And, people would probably care more about their own lives and families instead of worrying about the silly stuff.
