I have breastfed my baby for almost four months now and I have had a period every month. I read in books that if you breastfeed, you aren't supposed to have a period.

It is common NOT to have your period while breastfeeding, BUT there are women who still do. Don't always believe everything you read in those books. It can drive you crazy.
And don't believe breastfeeding is a form of birth control. It is a known fact that it is not.

It is only true for some women. I am one of the women that is is NOT true for. I also breastfed for 10 months and got my menstruation every month as I did before preg. There are many myths about breastfeeding. I loved breastfeeding and would do it again in a heartbeat but, I did not "loose weight faster", and "stop getting my period". You are just one of those women who still gets her period while nursing. Too bad huh, my sis did not get her period until months after she stopped nursing.

If you breastfeed you may not have a period - then again there are those few that do.
Usually, your OB will warn you that even during breastfeeding you can ovulate - and you can become pregnant. Many woman think breast feeding is a form of birth control.

It's common that some women will not have a period when they are breastfeeding, but every woman is different. It's ok that you are it does not mean that anythings wrong. Some women do and some women don't. You should be using birthcontrol even if you don't get your period during this time because you can get pregnant!

If you are breastfeeding full time with no bottles in between than you shouldnt get a period. I just got done breastfeeding my 22 month old and I got my period when she was 15 months. It all depends on how much you are breastfeeding.

Tick tock is absolutely right- Loads of people think that you should not have periods when breastfeeding- but this just isn't true. I am exclusively breastfeeding my 12 week old, and also feeding through the night- but I have already had two periods!!!

It is different for everyone. There was a woman in my mom's group who started her period 6 weeks after her baby was born and was regular ever since. She was breastfeeding exclusively around the clock. She worried about it and asked her doctor and was told that this is normal for some people. If you are still concerned ask your doctor.

It depends on if you breastfeed exclusively or if the baby sleeps through the night. If you are going several hours between feedings your body can start producing the hormones that causes you to have your period.

Some women do, some women don't. Either is truely normal. The longer you exclusively nurse and the more your baby nurses at night, the less likely you are to have your cycles return. Some moms find that starting solids or returning to work may kick their cycles back into gear.
For me, they returned at 9.5 mos, at 10 mos and at 16 mos after my three kids were born. All were still nursing.

Breastfeeding CAN stop your period, but not always. It is not a good form of birth control. You unfortunately one of the women that are not as lucky. Take care and keep breastfeeding.
