Once you are aware that you'd like to have a child is a good time, especially if you are on budget, when you give yourself enough time to plan you can take advantage of one day sales etc. I dont think 12 weeks is too early at all, unless you dont think you'd try again if you were to lose this one. Just my opinion though.

I don't think 12 weeks is too early at all. Once you are past the first trimester most of the early concerns are subsided. Make sure you go to all of your doctor appointments, and ask for an ultrasound if you have any concerns. It may help to ease your stress to see the little life flurishing in there!
As far as purchasing things - I was on a tight budget too. I found that ebay was a huge help. Since it's early in the pregnancy you have plenty of time to find what you want, and spend only what you can afford. We basically got one larger purchase per month and it made a big difference. Once the baby came we didn't have any large credit card bills or debt (at least not from baby stuff). If ebay's not your style, you can still use the one large thing per month. Keep in mind that you'll probably get the little things from your baby shower, so don't focus too much on clothing, bath supplies, and monitors. Those are the smaller, more affordable things that friends like to get.
Other than that...good luck and take good care of yourself!!

I think after 12 weeks is good. I had the same problem with being on a tight budget....i am now 30 weeks and havent even purchased a single thing, we are waiting until our tax return. (Thank god for that!!) Waiting to long can be bad too. Ive been worried i would go into labor before im able to buy anything!! haha. Also, can you have a babyshower? That might help with getting some of the items. Even the small items add up like bottles, diaper bags, ect....so maybe a babyshower might be good!! Either way, i say after 12 weeks is fine :-) Some wait til after 20 weeks, when they have the first ultrasound, but i think its up to you guys. When you can afford an item like stroller or car seat, or you see it on sale, i say get it!! Good luck and congrats!!

I would suggest buying things *before* your shower. You're going to wait until you have your baby shower, see what you get, and then spend the last 3 or 4 months of pregnancy shopping when shopping is going to be the last thing you want to be doing when you're that big!
I don't think 12 weeks is too early to start shopping. If you're still apprehensive then wait a few more weeks. If the doctor isn't seeing any problems or having any worries then I'd especially find it okay to start shopping now.
Congratulations on the pregnancy :-)

I agree with after the first trimester. I'm currently 21 weeks pregnant and am just starting to buy things. We also want to buy a little at a time before the baby that way the money doesn't seem to bother us too much when the time comes. Good luck!

I guess it depends on if you have any baby showers planned. People will always gift you with the little things, but you need the baby carseat to take your little one home! Your other major purchase would be a bassinette.
Don't worry about miscarriage. There's a stress you DO NOT need. Take care of yourself, get the 2 major things, and the rest will take care of itself.
Good luck and congratulations!

I worried about jinxing my pregnancy as well. I waited till I was 12 weeks before buying anything. Then I started small, like blankets and onsies. You can aways start making purchases, tape the receipts to the box and put them in a room not to be disturbed until you make it far enough to be comfortable. For some reason I can't bring myself to put anything together until the point of viability (24 weeks). Its all about what you want to do. I had a friend who wouldn't buy anything until the baby was born.

Now is as good a time as any! Even if something happens to this baby you will probably try again so go buy the furniture and anything that is not specific to boy or girl until you know the sex or if you are not going to find out buy lots of white or yellow and ask for gift cards instead of clothes when you register so you can buy the appropriate clothes for the sex of the baby.

After 3 months! A miscarriage happens to 1 out of 5 and it usually happens by the 12th week, so when you make it past that, I'd say buy a little, but not clothes until you are 20 weeks and know the sex, or you'll be doing returns!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Start making the purchases now... just leave them in the boxes in case (heaven forbid) something goes wrong. It is very expensive and can be overwhelming.
Check out consignment stores, and used furniture stores... baby's really do minimal damage, and the used items are often in excellent condition. Pick an item (like the travel system) that you buy new and is special. Take any hand-me -downs, and pick through them keeping only what you like.
Have fun.
