I'm 48 yrs old, and by some people's opinions, I still don't wear makeup. I'm told that I have natural beauty and that my complexion is good (due to vitamins, no smoking, exercise, genetics, and not putting chemicals into the pores of my skin). I pass for anywhere from 5 to 15 yrs younger, depending upon the time of day, how I slept the night before, how I feel.
The only item that I wear as "makeup" is that I had permanent eyeliner applied to both upper and lower eyelids. I used a very soft color, so that it appears as natural as possible. If I need to, I will sometimes touch up the line with some soft brown eyeshadow (applied with a stiff narrow brush), then blended in to the skin.
Very simple. Not sloppy or "hard" looking.
PS - I was not permitted to wear makeup until I was out of my parents house, but that was ok, I was always conservative.

When I was 12 I wore a little lipgloss and sometimes eye shadow and that was it. Now I'm 13 and I wear eye liner, eye shadow, mascara, and lip gloss. Big change. But you've got to keep it natural looking. And with your parents, it will probablly be a little different than with some other people. Overall, don't worry. Once you start, you'll be glad you could go without when you were young. Ask your parents if you can start with something little like lip gloss and a light colored eye shadow, as long as you keep it natural looking. Maybe through that you'll gain trust and you can move on to more things.
Much love,
Serena (and good luck!)

Well their is no set time. I am a parent of three children. My daughter is the same age as you are. I let her wear some make up like foundation and lip gloss and mascara. Just the basics. I guess if you have really strick parents its a whole different thing. Try to compromise with them. I was once a young girl so I understand what you are going threw. I rather let my daughter do some light make-up instead of her putting make up in school and taking it off when she gets home. Just talk to your parents, its best if you have and open relation with them. Besides you have all the time in the wold ahead of you. Make-up shouldn't be your priority right know. Good luck.

I think I started around 13 or 14. It seemed like a good age and that was about when everyone else started to wear it too. Of course I am 29 now and that was a long time ago. SO just like with everything else kids start at a younger age now. I still say 14 is a good age.

They probably don't want people taking advantage of you cuz your still young and makeup makes you look old . Plus make up ages you for real . The chemicals that are used for this pigments are not even supposed to be in make up enjoy your age now b-cuz when your youth is gone it really sucks . At 16 yes you should be allowed . It all depends on your mature state . Don't rush to experience life so fast , there are alot of perverts waiting for some young looking girl to use . Be carefull and be your own person what everyone is doning is not always righ tir cool.

Yeah 16 is a good age. Im 12. I wore mascara when I was 10 but now I wear more. Dont be like "I want to wear makeup" Just go to a store buy eyeliner or something and slowly buy more. Go w/your friends or something.

I'm 12, and I wore makeup last year, too. My mom didn't approve, but I wore it anyway. I put it on right before my carpool got there and yelled a quick, "bye mom! luv ya!" out the door and left before she could notice. She wasn't there for an hour or so after I got home, so I just took it right off when I got home. I wear eye brightening serum, tinted moisturizer, translucent powder, eyeshadow, mascara, and some fun scented lip gloss! good luck!

You should ask your mom and dad. They make the rules on how old you need to be before they are going to let you wear makeup.
If I had a daughter, she would be able to wear lip gloss and eyeshadow at 13, mascara at 14, facial powder at 15, and full makeup at 16. That's my opinion. Only your parents can tell you, though.

1. if you can't spell wear and put where instead you're waaay too young.
2. my mom wasn't allowed to wear makeup until college. so your parents might have the same (or similar) restrictions. i am allowed to wear make-up and i started when i was 12. (i'm gonna be 14 in april) but frankly i don't wear it that often. takes up too much time.
3. no matter what you have to respect you're parents decision on whether you are allowed to wear make-up or not. they have ways of knowing you wore make-up even if you can't see the make-up on your face. (ah...the old cotton swab across the face.) plus if you disrespect them then you are not old enough to wear make-up. parent's rules come first, even if you hate them. once you learn to respect them and stop bugging them about wearing make-up they might come to a comprimise.
3. compromise with them. for example say you will wear only CLEAR lipgloss and keep it neutral, possibly even wearing only on weekends. even if you wish you could wear it to school think of it like this: atleast you can wear SOME makeup.

I am 14, and the only makeup I use is chapstick.
If you ask me, at my middle school, 11- and 12- year olds look pretty ridiculous in makeup, especially if they don't know how to wear it. And at my school, probably only 5% of the girls who wear makeup actually know how to apply it. Trust me, if you don't know how to properly wear makeup, there is going to be a lot of girls who are going to talk about you behind your back - it's just how girls are.
You're still pretty young; you shouldn't need makeup! At this age your skin is still looking its best (seriously, it can get worse), and if you wear makeup now, people are not going to think you're mature - they're going to think that you're a wannabe. I know it sounds harsh, but it's the truth.
