Its an expression.

Give someone a roasting
Give someone a grilling

It basically means giving a person or persons a hard time, and a good telling off about something.

Whats clever is that they have used it when taking about a factory that roasts coffee beans.

Roasting is in the Dictionary as

1. Extremely Hot as in Roasting the Coffee Beans. (Adjactive)
2. Severe Critiscism as in Has given the company a roasting (Noun).

this phrase 'give someone a roasting' is a well known saying. it basically means give them a good telling off or earbashing. eg have a go at them so to speak. so in the sense of the question above, this action group community against pollution has given this coffee company good 'telling off' or 'piece of their mind' about the harmful effects the emissions from its hayes factory filling the air is causing.

just think of someone really 'telling off' someone for doing something harmful. thats the idea you need to go with ok!!
