Tell them you are planning on going to college next year and it would come in handy if you had one

You can use the college argument. You can also point out it helps you in high school. It lets you take a computer to the library. It lets you use the computer around your house rather than tying you to one desk. It lets you take the computer on trips.

You might offer to make do with a cheap, refurbished, or used laptop to save money.

You might also offer to share it with your parents.

BTW, my 5th grader got his own laptop when I got a newer laptop for my 9th grader this year. They were both used IBM Thinkpads. They're slow but they work for school.

I checked at NewEgg and you can get a new notebook for under $500.

Ask them if they will help out with the cost. Don't act like you deserve a free laptop just for living off them :)

Do some reasearch on what you want, what is reasonable and how you can make money to help out with the expense. Present it in a mature fashion and they will be more likely to listen.

I'm a spoiled brat, I want it and I want it now.

You should be glad for that, when I was 17 I didn't even have a computer.

Get a job and buy your own. Show some responsibility.

If you are going to college that would be a prime example, as a current student in college I don't know what I would do without my laptop.

Try proving that your responsible by cleaning or doing chores. Or you could raise enough money by getting a job ( unless you have one).
