The song about the little boy during Christmas that wants to buy a pair of shoes for his mother. He so desperately wants his mother to look and feel beautiful because she is very ill. This way he figures that she will be beautiful when she meets Jesus. Then while buying the shoes he realizes that he doesn't have enough money and the clerk won't let him buy them for his dying mother. So sad :(

I would've also said "Alone Again," but here are some songs that are really deep sad songs, but mostly because of the music not necessarily the lyrics:
"Everybody's gotta learn sometime" -Beck (or The Korgis)
"Tear Drop" or "Sleepwalk" -Santos & Johnny
"Crying" or "Anything you want"-Roy Orbison
"Where or When" -Harry connick jr (or any version! war song..)
"Long Gone Lonesome Blues" Hank Williams
"The Impossible Dream" Glen Campbell
I have more...let me know if you liked these
