I read somewhere in Germany that a man stood a few feet infront of the police in a heavy trafic area and held a sign which reminded people of the speed limit. This caused the drivers to slow down and not get caught by the police. Is that legal to do in America?

Yea but, I don't think its a good idea to aggravate the cops, we use "Radar Detectors" in the U.S., They pick up the "Whine" off the "Oscillator" in the police radar units and pre warn you of a Radar Trap ahead, they are legal in all 50 states (except Ct. and Md.), they will also detect laser, and multiple radar bands. If a fire truck or ambulance or other emergency vehicle is approaching with its lights on, they emit a signal that makes the radar units kick on the "ALERT", displaying an "S" for "Safety Vehicle" approaching, reminding you to pull over, they also I.D. the type of radar in use, and it's signal strength through an L.E.D display to the driver. I wired my radar detection unit to turn on when the ignition is turned on, just like the police radar gun turns on when they start their cars. speeding tickets are over $100, a good radar unit cost about that, so if it saves you from 1 ticket, it paid for itself already.

don't know about a sign, but a woman has placed a 4 ft pole with a light fixture on it near a nortorious speed trap set by police and they are making her take it down. also, my buddy was cited after he flashed a couple of cars with his headlights to warn of a cop ahead. so, don't think they would allow a sign either.

Prabably not a smart idea. The cops will get ya everytime. There was an old saying when I was younger,"

I am sure alot of people won't pay attention to it. If you really want to get them mad, find a speed trap they utilize and stand about 1/2 a mile away and warn them.

If you are on your own property you should have the right to put up any sign you want as long as it isn't offensive to the general public or pornographic.
