The icon looks like a grid with a blue lock at the upper right corner and the microsoft access puple key symbol at the bottom left, but microsoft access can't open it. Also, it has gradually gotten larger over the past few months and i can't edit or delete it. can someone give me some info on this file? under file type it says Microsoft Access Record-Locking Information. I am also an Administrator, so i should be able to access anything.

What kind of extension does the file have?

Check out www.filext.com for the extension to see what program can open it.

It seems as though the file is just a "copy" of another file. a way to keep information locked and safe.
