Personally I see it that the black lobby is more interested in getting black people to be seen in the entertainment industry. They demand it of TV producers and film makers, have vocal figure heads like Jesse Jackson to stand up for their group. I don't know of anyone like Jesse Jackson for the native community.
As a side note, while watching SVU last week, there was (I believe) a native actor playing a detective from Brooklyn helping Ice Tea's character out. I think he was in Wind Talkers.

Most Native Americans are at work and don't have time to be on television.

Come to Canada, we have the the Aboriginal Peoples Network
It has a lot of really cool shows...check out Wolf Lake with Lou Diamond Phillips late at night...
The Rez is an awesome show, kinda like Degrassi and 90210 with a native edge...loved this show, back in the day
Hank William's First Nation is a show starring Shelton Elder who was a finalist in Canadian Idol last year...it is a cute quirky show...

Because either native people don't have as good PR people or native people aren't going into entertainment. It might be an American prejudice that Native have been Type cast as canon fodder for "cowboy and Indian" movies but I have seen a few native Canadian actors and even politicians.
It might be a culture thing though; native communities have a lot of various problems including drugs and employment.

i've wondered about that myself, whether most of them choose not to participate in popular culture (wise of them if this be the case) or if they're kept out.
although, in my (albiet, naive) opinion, native americans don't really have such a defined feature that sets them apart as easily as say, a dark complexion or almond shaped eyes. (meaning, maybe we don't really notice which actors are native american)

There are plenty of native americans left. Who do you think owns most or all of the casinos in Louisiana. That's not a racist joke... it's a fact!!!!!!!
There are still tribes in Nevada and other western states.
I think Native Americans are the most overlooked. They have major crime and drug problems in their communities. Many are depressed. Do you know native american women were secretely given birth control by the medical professionals sent by the U.S. govt in order to eventually lead to their end as a race. As well as end the reminder that for all our talk about slavery and protecting other countries from invasion, we were the invaders at one time.

what difference does it make? Aren't we supposed to be looking deeper than skin color? I hate all of the *All black* or *All white* television shows. Or better yet, the shows targeted for a black audience with the token white guy and vise versa. Can't people just intertwine with one another?
