The song im thinking of only came out about 1-2 yrs ago....

If it's not "Picture" or "Only God Knows Why", maybe it's "Single Father", although that song was on his self titled album which came out in 2003, which is obviously more than 1-2 years ago....
Hmmm... Well his last album was "Live Trucker" which came out about a year ago (2006) and that album is just a live version of his previous songs...except there is a song on there called "Outstanding" which was originally sung by The Gap Band...
Then there's also "Feel Like Makin' Love", "Do It For You", "Hard Night for Sarah" and "Cold and Empty"...all on his self titled cd, which could all be considered rock ballads.
I'm guessing your time frame when you say "1-2 years" may be a bit off. My best guess would be "Cold and Empty"? I've posted a link to the video so you can check it out to see if that's the song you're looking for. Otherwise, look up the other songs I mentioned and see if one of those may be it. But as I said, my best guess would be "Cold and Empty."
