If the cookie dough has raw egg in it, the eggs may contain a bacteria called salmonella. Raw cookied dough that is pre-made, say from pillsbury, or that you get in cookie dough icecream is made without raw eggs because of this. Fresh eggs which you might get from a local farmer you trust are pretty unlikely to be comtaminated; larger egg gathering facilities are breeding houses for bacteria and viruses, however, so its very unwise to eat uncooked eggs you get from the grocery store.
Some recipes, for instance for Caesar dressing, call for raw or coddled eggs, but recipes of this sort usually call for juice from a lemon or lime, the Ph level of which is supposedly high enough that it kills any salmonella bacteria.

the raw egg in cookie dough can make you sick with salmonella. But cookie dough that's in ice cream and stuff doesn't have that kind of problem.

Technically anything with raw eggs has the potential to make you sick due to salmonella poisoning. I have never had cookie dough or cake mix ever make me sick though...

No, cookie dough should not make you sick. Tons of people eat it daily, but nothing happens. If you have large quantities of it then you might have a chance of getting sick.

No, I've eaten cookie dough all my life (50 years) and it's never made me sick but if you eat enough of it you could get sick from eating too many sweets.
