The epideral isnt in the spine, it is actually in a space between your back and spine...When the doctor gave me my epideral he accidently gave me a spinal... what that means is when he injected the test drug(they do that first) it went into my spinal sac. Now this didnt hurt at all, the contractions are bad and you are just so glad to make them go away! after this happened to me, they didnt even give me the epideral medicine because i was completely numb from the chest down. i couldnt feel a thing, and it lasted throughout the labor. dont worry about a thing sweetheart, to me giving blood hurt more than an epideral.

Ok, the epidural was the worst part of the labor and delivery for me. It hurt like hell going in. It gave me a burning and heavy pressure feeling that started at my back and worked downward, then when it got to my legs, my nerves started firing and it was like I was being shocked from the insides. Then it all went numb and 6 hours after my delivery I still couldn't walk without help. It took away all of the pain for me, but if I ever have to go through it again, I might freak out!

Compared to the contractions of labor, I didn't even notice. It kinda freaked my husband out though. It wore off about an hour or so after the birth. While I was recieving the medication my legs felt like your mouth does when the dentist numbs it. I am leary of needles though and I didn't think twice, I was just concentrating on the contractions.

first you fill a little stick and them you will go numb. After that you don't fill anything. It hurts less than labor pains.

It's not as bad as you think. When I was pregnant I worried more about the epideral than what the labor was going to be like.

GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR PREGNANCY

An epidural feels like a pin prick in your back. You may feel the tube being inserted into your spine, but compared to the pain of the contractions it's nothing.

It stings at first and then when they are inserting the tube it feels like they are pressing down on a nerve which is more uncomfortable than painful. Compared to the contractions it feels like a dream though. I am extremely afraid of needles and I am looking forward to my epidural next month.

They put this in the spaces between your spinal bone. It hurts it has a sharp pain then a burning sensation, If they do it correctly your toes and legs get cold then you start to feel numb. After the general sharp pain and the numbness kicks in labor becomes very bearable and enjoyable. Its a small price to get rid of labor pain.

It depends on who administers it.
I had a really good doctor, and all I felt was a pinch in my back, like when they put in an IV. Then I got a cold, numbing sensation, and my right hip went numb. (whoops!)
I let the doctor know this, and he made the necessary adjustments, but by then I felt nothing. Labor was a breeze after that!

i was terrified of getting a needle in my spine..but 14 hours into labor...i was willing to have them cut off my foot without anything to numb it if it would stop the labor pains...the needle part didn't actually feel like anything compared to all the other things.

i couldn't feel a thing cuz i asked for pain meds before i could get the epidural and had a bad reaction to it. I was wigging out. I don't know what the heck it was that they gave me in my IV, but i started wiggin out, seriously. be careful about asking for pain meds prior to the epidural. your situation might be different than mine, i'm not trying to scare you. The nurse told me that the pain med they gave me would put me to sleep, but it didn't. instead, i was awake and felt like I was on serious drugs. It felt like I was in Hellll. my doc had to come in and check on me. she told me that if I fought the sleep (like i was doing), i would have side effects that would "wig me out" and so she gave me an anxiety med in my IV and I passed out then. They woke me to and asked how I was doing and I was in sooooo much pain, i was in really active labor, so i started crying and they decided to finally give me the epidural, I was squirming around so much because of the other drug that was in me, my baby was in distress, it was awful. they got the epidural in, but i was moving so much, it popped out and they had to put it back in. they almost didn't do it a 2nd time because of the dangers and i kept squirming. I had an awful experience. Next time, i will just deal w/the pain until i can get the epidural. anyways. it didn't hurt me at all when they put the epidural in.
