I'm just curious, why do some men think that women are inferior and visa versa?
Why aren't we equal?

They have been brought up this way and socialized by parents that didn't know any better. This is the same way that some ignorant people become racists or homophobes. Others just have no self esteem and have grown up blaming others for their misfortunes.

we just aren't equal. we aren't the same. (no one is exactly equal, btw)
this does not and should not mean that men and women do not have equal VALUE.

there's a comment above about women worrying about their looks and feeding the 'object' image created by men as a reason for women's inferiority,(i dont really understand this?) but even that is becoming more equal across the sexes. unfortunately, it's spreading to the men instead of merely dissappearing from women, but what can you do?

men and women value different things, often those who think they are superior value those things that the other does not have. for example, there's a man values strength and sees emotions and sensitivity to others as a weakness, this man will probably consider women to be inferior as they are known for their emotional openness. and it can go the other way as well, you get the idea...

in some cultures women are to be worse than men and u cant help it but in the other countries where people have grown out of this kind of thinking u need to look for the answer somewhere else.
apart from the spasticated idiots who have the opinion just because they have opinion there may turn up the way of thinking saying that a women are only extras or additions to mens life and they are supposed to fulfill mens whims because of the way whole cultures thought years ago.
who do u call a gentlemen? what do u need a gentlemen these times for? i think u know the answers. most of the women demand from men to be treated like princesses to pay for them when theyre out to open the door before them and all this stuff take from the past times. of course every well bred man will do what he have to do but now when everybody knows that women have equal rights some women abuse their position. even though you have the same rights you still expect men to do all this stuff like paying the bills and treating you in a special way. most of the men think that if they cash in they can have something back and the problem is women dont change it.
i think that the fault lies on the either site. it grows out of a conviction that men always ruled the world and they can have what they want and on the other hand because of women letting men to do all that gentelmen stuff and expecting men to do mens things while forgeting there should be no such think like mens or womens stuff. of course we have different interests but generally we should treat each other in the same way and not expect anything paricular that is cennected to the opposite gender as it used to be.

The penis is glorified and worshiped in direct or derivative form. Guns, missiles, swords, totem poles. Thus those who have a penis are glorified, while those without (PWOPS, or "people without penises) are considered inferior. The solution is to advance the glorification of canyons, caves, lakes, and other vaginal symbols. Interestingly, the missile shoots forth from the silo rather than the reverse, thus the missile is more a turd than a penis (it is expelled like a turd). So there we have a homoerotic element, or perhaps simply an anal fixation. All of this BS aside, perhaps women are treated as inferior because of their concern with how they look and whether they are desirable. They feed the "female as object of desire" by their own behavior. As for Visa Versa, are there women who view themselves as superior to men? I suppose there would have to be. Hmmm....and why aren't we simply equal? Because we tend to classify our differences as "better" and "worse"?

Some think that others are inferior, and this aids them in their view of their Superiority.

Some need that 'Superiority' as they have very little to back it up.

Why aren't we equal? Well, in the eyes of the Law etc we are. However, at times some people need to demonstrate that they are ~ or are called upon to show it.

Sash.

It's who they are. Everyone has different beliefs and values of what they think the world should be like, and everyone living on it. When someone doesn't understand something, they tend to go against it, which causes sexism.

It's basically like saying, why is there racism? Why can't different cultures get along? Someone is always going to find something to dislike about the other culture, or something to not understand, and it will cause a riot.

Because some people are selfish and cannot empathise with another persons situation. Do you think they would still have that opinion if the tables were switched? Because they have never been treated like it themselves, they lack the ability to empathise with someone put in that situation. I believe in Karma and eventually, what goes around comes around. Its life's way of teaching short-sighted people a valuable lesson!

I think it has to do with the personal bias that every person has coupled with an insecurity or low self image that makes them feel vulnerable to anyone who is different in any way... different gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, etc. What amazes me is how many WOMEN are sexist and view women as less powerful than men. Great question, though, reminds us to think about our bias.

I think we are all inherently racist and sexist and that experience and education show us that both traits are not conducive to the common good, so we address them within ourselves on a day to day basis. They form an integral part of our negative thought patterns and it is easy to slip back into entrenched patterns of thinking.

well in the most of past men have men the ones to work (on the farm or in a office job) and women have stayed at home and did children stuff...so women seem "lesser"

or visa versa women look down on men because they feel they do more work at home then men do at offices
