I'm a freshman at a University and I have just begun my spring semester. I'm considering dropping out. I've done/am doing well in all my classes but financially I cannot do it. I only received a stafford loan and did not qualify for any additional aid. And I was unable to have a cosigner for any additional loans..everyone I knew/related has bad credit. Now, the remaining bill from last semester is being sent to a credit agency for non payment and I'm struggling and stressed out.
My question is..If I drop out this semester and work now through fall..will this hurt my chances of getting back into a University? What are the damages this can cause..anyone have to do this?

thanks

If your question is getting back into a university, you won't have a problem. However, you may need to re-take a few classes, or fulfill some requirements. Since your situation is financial and not academic, I don't think that getting back in will be an issue as far as academic requirements go.

If you feel that the stress is too much, perhaps you should drop out and fulfill the financial obligations first. This will delay you from getting your degree, but sometimes, you may have to do what is harder.

Also, if you're doing full time now, consider doing part time and work part time. That might alleviate some of your cash flow problems. I agree with the above answers - it may be harder to get back in once you completely drop out - it may take a while to get back. Most likely, you won't.

Good luck.

You will live to regret dropping out of school. Maybe not right away. But down the road. Go to the financial aid office and talk to someone about your situation. Two heads are better than one and perhaps they know of a solution.

Tough situation. If you can work during the fall, why not work now? Schedule classes and work around each other. Plenty of people do it, it just takes initiative and proper goal setting/planning.

Maybe you should transfer to a community college so you can just get your general classes out of the way and then when you get those done you might be eligible for scholarships and it might be easier.
