part1 - the subjects faces were made to be disfigured and then sent out to collect information from the public. on returning they reported that the public shunned them and where very nervous in their presence.

part 2 - the subjects were made up to be beautiful and again sent out to collect info from the public. on returning they reported that the public was helpful and gained many reports.

the subjects were then shown pictures of themselves as part 1 and 2. in both cases they looked the same - demonstrating that it is how you perceive yourself that is important
