The dietitians who work in these settings assess patients' caloric requirements and nutritional needs depending on the health status of the patient in question. They will recommend the appropriate diet to the physician, who writes the orders. Dietitians continue to assess the patient's needs, based on lab work and weight, throughout the stay in the facility.
