In my (albeit biased) opinion, darts has evolved over the last 30 years from a pub game, shown on occasion on the BBC, into a truly competitive sport. With the official recognition from Sport England, talk of it being an exhibiton game at the 2012 Olympics, and primetime live coverage on Sky Sports, Darts has become one of the most entertaining sports around.
Darts players are not just entertainers, they train as hard as footballers - Taylor practising 8 hours a day for example.
Football players are not just football players, they entertain as well. Why the two should be so disparate amazes me. Darts players do the same job as footballers, just to less publicity. So in answer to your question, they are both.

It's a toughie, but to explain it, let's look at motorsports, shall we? You can argue "well, it's just driving around in a circle in a car, and I've got a driving licence and could easily do the Monaco Grand Prix if only the weedy engine in my Nissan Micra wasn't so restricting! That's no sport!"
Then you go on the track in a proper race-spec car.... and you find you're subjected to dramatic G-forces... and and you'd never think you'd be braking so much before a corner... and you've just spun off on that hairpin...?
Fair enough, you're not running around a track, but Christ do you need skill, oh, and the stamina is still a must on these long, tiring races with cars not really built to take you to the shops in comfort.
I suppose, to some extent, you could more-or-less say the same about darts, really. To sum up, you may not be running around a field, but it does take a lot of skill.

does a sport mean people running after a ball for 90 mins, than can get a bit boaring like man utd or chelsea winning each week. in darts phil taylor practises 8 hours a day, thats a lot of hard work. premiership players train for 4 maybe 5 hours a day and have a sunday off. darts is more entertaingin than football as 90 mins of the same thing is boaring. darts there can be downfalls for such big darts names. darts is also a sport as it is a professional sport. it is also shown on sky sports. also it is entertianing.

It is without doubt a sport. Although they might not look like "sportsmen" they still practice 8 hours a day and dedicate themselves to the sport they love best. Its not as easy as it might look!! What would you define as a "sportsman" anyway??
I think its about time Yahoo Answers gave Darts its own category!!!!!!!

It's a sport.
Not very energetic admittedly but a sport nevertheless. It's very entertaining watching it on the telly.
I think some of its appeal is that anyone can have a go and then you realise just how difficult it is. Same with snooker.
Keep smilin'.

Did you ever see Matthew Lloyd? It exchange into like his mom dressed him each morning and don't ignore the hair. It had to appropriate. yet I accept as true with the socks down. I hate that. i comprehend Neil Craig on the Crows instructed his gamers they had to have their socks pulled up before a interest some years returned. uncertain if that keeps to be happening. i'm nice with them having their jumpers un-tucked. it is not comparable to they are dishevelled like basketball tops. Take to illustrate Collingwood and Essendons jumpers, they are like a 2nd dermis. No way you may tuck those in. yet permit's be truthful right here, the gamers have a much greater substantial activity that attempting to make themselves look surprisingly. They pass accessible to win and win basically. And if my team wins, i could not supply a rats **** what they seem to be, in spite of if it is somebody like Travis 'The Hobo' Johnstone.

It requires a skill and practice. I don't know, I would categorize it like billiards. I don't think it is entertainment. I would have to call it a sport.
