The correct answer is NO. Macs (even though they are PCs now), the Mac OS does NOT run pc programs. There are very few programs/games that will run on a mac. Over 90% of the market is PC, that means almost all programs/games are for PC not mac (there are some that do make a version for mac, but not many). I would strongly suggest a true PC computer, that way you will get able to use anything in the stores for pc (notice the stores like wal-mart, computer stores, etc do NOT sell software for macs).

Macs have their advantages and disadvantages. One of the big disadvantages it that their is a lot of software that just is not written for the Mac. There will be games and business software that won't work.

The only real advantages Macs have are in the areas of desktop publishing and there are few viruses written for them. That goes back to what I said before.

The reason there are not many viruses on the Mac and a lot of other programs are not available is that so few people use Macs compared to Windows computers.

I think that Macs are great... I use a MacBook in college
as for downloading everything... hard to say. Everything that works on a PC can work on a Mac. You must specifically look for programs that you need for Mac to install on the Mac. You cant install something for Windows on your Mac... it wont work!!
HOWEVER, you can now buy Macs with Intel Proccessors, meaning you can run Windows on the Mac! Anything you cant do on Mac, just switch operating systems

Macs are the best of the best when it comes to computers. You can download all the music you want. If you want programs, there's tons of free software for Macs. Most of the software for Mac is better than anything you'll find on a PC. Go ahead, get a Mac. You won't regret it. I have a MacBook Pro, myself, as well as two Mac minis.

rbarc is wrong. There's millions of Mac users out there. Plenty of users to target with viruses and other types of malware. Mac OS X is secure because it's based on UNIX, not because of it's lower market share. PC users love to spread that myth around. The truth is, there has never been a Mac virus in the wild. The other myth that PC users love to spew out of their rabid Mac-jealous mouths is that there is this great lack of software available to the Mac platform. Again, this is not true. Go ahead, check out the downloads section of the Apple website. You'll find plenty of great software, and that's only the freeware, shareware and demoware. There's plenty of great commercial software, as well.
