I decided to search for "death metal" on the search thing, not expecting anyone on this site to actually know what it is, and alas, I was correct.

- Death metal is not Lamb of God, Slayer, Rob Zombie, Slipknot, Devil Driver, Chimaira, Cradle of Filth or Killswitch Engage.
- Death metal is not the music that goths listen to. Death metallers do not wear black eyeliner or cut themselves.
- Death metal is not something you should listen to if you want to be "hardcore" or "tough". Tough people don't need to prove how tough they are.
- Death metal is not emo, and it is not anti-emo either. Death metal doesn't care about emo. Emo and death metal haven't even met.
- Death metal isn't Satanic. Individual bands might be, but there are several Christian death metal bands too.
- Death metal fans do not want to kill everyone.

That being said, do YOU know what death metal is?

Tony: Why would you discriminate against people because of the type of music they listen to? I did that, I wouldn't have the awesome friends that I have now. They listen to everything, from Christian country to rap to emo to j-pop.

Lamb of God is part of the New Wave of American Heavy metal, along with Killswitch and Chimaira. Slayer is thrash metal, Cradle of filth are debatable but not death metal, Zombie is Industrial, and Slipknot is nu metal. Death Metal is the most extreme subgenre of metal, taking elements from black metal and the NWOBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal) The most infamous band in the genre is probably Cannibal Corpse, with Deicide and Morbid Angel trailing right behind. Many Death Metal bands are in a bit of war to see who can come up with the most graphic lyric, most stomach churning album cover, etc.. There was a big controversy in the 90s regarding the war between Black Metal and Death Metal, with the Norwegians and Americans. Some Norwegian black metal bands did enjoy Morbid Angel though... When Deicide were on tour in Oslo, Norway, their stage was bombed, Many people blamed animal rights advocates who may have been upset about Deicide's animal sacrifices, however Glen Benton (their lead vocalist and bassist who actually branded a cross inverted onto his head) blamed radical black metallers... As a death metal fan, i can confirm i don't want to kill everyone. Music is an excellent way to get out anger and aggression, and if you're gonna let the lyrics get to you, then that shows how weak you really are. We are not EMO, in fact we are the farthest thing from it! Emo music supports self harm, Death metal certainly is just the opposite... I think this sums it up....

Here my opinion :
I decided to search for "death metal" on the search thing, not expecting anyone on this site to actually know what it is, and alas, I was correct.
NO BODY CAN DESCRIBE ANY MUSIC IN THIS WORLD IN DETAIL, AND ALSO IN METAL MUSIC THERE ARE SO MANY ELEMENTS WHICH EFFECT IT. SO WHAT PEOPLE SAID ABOUT DEATH METAL ARE NEVER ENOUGH. RIGHT !!

- Death metal is not Lamb of God, Slayer, Rob Zombie, Slipknot,
Devil Driver, Chimaira, Cradle of Filth or Killswitch Engage.
YUP, YOU ARE RIGHT FOR ALL OF THESE BANDS, THEY JUST PLAY THRASH, CORE, MODERN METAL AND NU METAL AND SOME MELODIC METAL.

- Death metal is not the music that goths listen to. Death metallers do not wear black eyeliner or cut themselves.
ABSOLUTELY, DEATH METALLERS JUST USE THE COMMON WEAR, NEVER DO LIKE THE GOTHIC.

- Death metal is not something you should listen to if you want to be "hardcore" or "tough". Tough people don't need to prove how tough they are.
THIS ONE I SO AGREE WITH YOU 200%.

- Death metal is not emo, and it is not anti-emo either. Death metal doesn't care about emo. Emo and death metal haven't even met.
YUP, I DO AGREE AGAIN WITH YOU, EMO IS FAR AWAY FROM DEATH METAL, AND I PREFER TO CHOOSE DEATH METAL MUSIC.

- Death metal isn't Satanic. Individual bands might be, but there are several Christian death metal bands too.
NARROW PEOPLE WOULD SAY DEATH METAL IS SATANIC, AND THEY ARE SO STUPID. I LOVE ALSO CHRISTIAN DEATH METAL, SUCH METANOIA, MORTIFICATION ETC.

- Death metal fans do not want to kill everyone.
THE MURDERER WHO KILL PEOPLE, NOT THE DEATH METAL FANS.

That being said, do YOU know what death metal is?
DEATH METAL IS THE METAL MUSIC THAT EXPRESS MANY ELEMENTS OF HUMAN CONDITION, THE ELEMENTS OF HATE, ANGER, BRUTALITY, ROUGHNESS, TOGETHERNESS, LOUDNESS ETC MIX INTO ONE ABSOLUTE MUSIC THAT CONTAINS SOME BEAUTIFUL LYRICS, LOW TUNES GUITAR MACHINE, DOUBLE DRUMMING AND ONE TOUGH GROWL TO REACH THE DEATH SITUATIOIN. THAT'S DEATH METAL IS.

My boyfriend is into death metal and has opened my eyes to the genre. Death Metal is : Dying Fetus, Cannibal Corpse, At The Gates, Skinless, Cattle Decapitation. Death metal is HUGE in Sweden. And you are correct, death metal fans do not want to kill everyone, and that stereotype offends me! Death Metal does not have a specific style though black is the color of choice.

Death metal is a sub-genre of heavy metal that evolved out of thrash metal during the early 1980s. Its lyrics are similar, note similar but not same, to that of black metal and it lacks the whole verse chorus cycle since its in more of a story telling structure.

Should I go on not like it matters though you will try and claim its something different. I will say its not my type of music and I dont make long lasting friendship with those that I know who listen to it.

Groups include
Cannibal Corpse, Carnal Grief, Castrum, Catastrophic, Children Of Bodom, Ciborium, Dark Disciple, Dead Jesus, Decay Of Salvation

*EDIT No I dont discriminate on the base of race color creed or what music they listen to. I base my true friends on the type of people they are. I have had friends that listen to death metal but unless there is some common ground that friendship isnt going to last.

THIS IS AN ANSWER I GAVE TO SOMEONE ASKING IF DEATH METAL IS JUST BANGING ON DRUMS AND NOISE. IM NOT SURE OF THE QUESTION, BUT I THINK I AGREE WITH YOU! SEE YA!

. The reality is that out of all styles of music death metal pushes music 'theory' to its limit. They play odd time signatures, polyrythems, and other difficult styles of playing that take lots of skill and training to do. The truth is, most people who like death metal are musicians because they can hear the beat to the music.

Death metal is something that those flaming lame-*** noobs above me certainly don't understand. Just ignore them and let them think it's satan worshipping or whatever.
I don't see why you're trying to justify the genre against the brainless moron masses. It's an extreme music for select people. Those who actually go to the trouble of properly listening and trying to understand will be rewarded, the rest can just rot in their averageness and listen to american idol or something.
Ignore the brainless zombies and go put on some DM album f***ing loud.

Death metal is a sub-genre of heavy metal that evolved out of thrash metal during the early 1980s.

Death metal is occasionally known for abrupt tempo, key, and time signature changes, and extremely fast and complex guitar and drumwork, although this is not always the case. Bands of this genre frequently utilise downtuned and distorted guitars, a downtuned, sometimes distorted bass guitar, a drum set almost universally using two bass drums or a double bass drum pedal. Although this is the standard setup, bands have been known to incorporate other instruments such as keyboards. Death metal is very physically demanding of its musicians, especially in its more "technical" forms.

There are two widely-based theories on the origin of the term "death metal." The first being the title of the Possessed song Death Metal, which was featured on their 1985 debut album Seven Churches (an album widely regarded as the first death metal album, predating Morbid Angel's and Death's works), and a song made famous on the underground tape-trading circuit shortly before. (In the same year, a song called Death Metal appeared on the debut album Power from Hell by thrash metal band Onslaught.) The other is that the name of death metal pioneers Death was made into the genre's name, where their 1987 debut album Scream Bloody Gore made death metal a more recognised style of music. Their simplistic name has said to have been adopted into the genre's title. A third theory emerged in 2003 when the late Thomas 'Quorthon' Forsberg of black metal band Bathory claimed in an interview with the British journalist Joel McIver that he had invented the term 'death metal' as far back as 1984, even though his band never pursued a death metal approach.

Unless something changed in the last 10 years, then that whole post-goth, late 1980s crap like Venom is "death metal".

But who really cares? Do you know what pointlessly trivial is?
