Nice Idea, however there are issues that would have to be settled and due to human nature, most won't. At least not yet.
Religious issues
Social issues especially Africa and South America - lots of poor folk in these areas.
Military issues - lots of varying levels in technology.
Ideological issues
If we had a world event that got every ones attention, then you could have a chance. Until then, nope.
Advantages - Reduction in costs for non essential services, co-operation on various projects, upgrading peoples health, higher living conditions, higher wages.
Disadvantages - Countries with higher GDP would be hard hit trying to send a larger amount of cash to poorer countries, integration issues (languages, customs), control issues (who, what).

This is a hard question to answer because it is so complex and has so many different sides to it. If it could really be run by the people and for the people then it would be a good idea. But, our society doesn't seem to be spiritually evolved enough yet, to make it work that way!!! If you email me, I can go into more detail, but I am afraid to say too much of what I really believe on here! I can also tell you some good books to read that describe how such a thing could work and what it would be like!!!

Advantage people would have less say in what the Gov does. This is only an advantage for the super eliet. Disadvantage people would have to pay more taxes to support this new Gov. This is only a disadvantage for the poor-middle class as the rich will dodge the taxes somehow.

a united earth? it's not a bad idea but the big question is who will rule supreme over all nations? that alone would create division...if not it will cause chaos...why? cos it's in our mindset that whoever (race/color) will sit on the highest office will be more serving to his followers..i think we should focus more on how to irradicate corruption...and we better shrink our governments into small regions so it can be better supervised and in doing so no need for politicians to fight over the highest rank in office for there will be plenty of presidential seats to fill in...in short, let's go back to the good old days when people live harmoniously in small villages...life is getting shorter to live since it's a physical fact that earth will die.if mankind cant think of an escape then we will all cease to live...so we better live peacefully, enjoy the rest of the days and hope that some of us will survive for generations to come.

One of the first hurdles is ideology and what role it plays in governance. Many in the world refuse a government that is secular in origin.

A one world government? I wouldn't want to live in it. We are much better off as a sovereign country.
